Lion on the Cross – Sculpture Exhibition

Artist: Ivan Klapez

We are thrilled to announce that Ivan Klapez is the next artist to develop an exhibition within the ART1a Konzeptkunst Atelier!
Ivan Klapez (b. 1961, Sinj, Croatia) is a London-based figurative sculptor known for exploring the expressive power of materials and the architecture of form. His work reflects the human will to exist and create—capturing both struggle and dignity through figures, metaphors, and monumental structures.

Blending realism with symbolic transformation, Klapez allows identities to shift, objects to become metaphors, and forms to echo classical influences such as Donatello, Michelangelo, Verrocchio, and Rodin. His sculptures combine structural clarity with emotional resonance, resulting in compositions of strong internal cohesion.
His new sculpture exhibition, Lion on the Cross, opens on 28 November 2025 at ART1a Konzeptkunst Atelier. We are excited to see how he brings his unique artistic vision into the ART1a space!

The vernissage will take place on Sunday, 28 November 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at ART1a Konzeptkunst Atelier.
The exhibition will be open from 28 November 2025 during the gallery’s opening hours:

Thursday–Friday: 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Saturday: 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Other days by appointment: +41 79 401 44 22

"Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book."

Ivan Klapez (b. 1961, Sinj, Croatia) is a London-based figurative sculptor known for exploring the expressive power of materials and the architecture of form. His work reflects the human will to exist and create, portraying both the struggle and the dignity inherent in that pursuit—whether through depictions of the marginalized and solitary, artists and writers, or monumental architectural forms.

Klapez’s sculptures often play with symbolic transformation and associative richness: figures shift identities, objects become metaphors, and forms echo classical echoes rooted in the traditions of Donatello, Michelangelo, Verrocchio, and Rodin. His work combines clarity of structure with emotional resonance, producing compositions of strong internal cohesion.

Among his notable public works is Unity (Nude Dancers) (1992), installed at Alban Gate in London. His large granite sculptures created in Tanzania (2002–2009) drew attention from the art world and government institutions alike, contributing to cultural development within the local community.
