Description

From the author:

The inspiration for this image was a 1792 pamphlet recruiting Swiss soldiers to protect the French king.

I created today’s Swiss Guard for the Lion Monument, which is dedicated to the fallen and surviving soldiers. The rifles and the helmets are original ones from that period.

While I was preparing this photo, I read about an advertisement in Russian newspapers calling for soldiers to join today’s army.

Anastasia looks into the lens. She has fled to Lucerne with her baby and her mother. She had to leave her husband behind to fight at the front.
